Grand Theft Auto
Dave Jones, founder of DMA Design and artist Mike Dailly, also of DMA Design discuss how what was initially just a fun demo that allowed you to drive around a city evolved into one of the biggest video game franchises of all time.
Spyro the Dragon
Insomniac's Ted Price, Brian Hastings and Alex Hastings along with contributions from Mark Cerny (in his role as former executive producer from Universal Interactive Studios) feature in this film about how Insomniac's impressive first game Disruptor, initially for the 3D0 console was converted to the PlayStation and from there to the development of Spyro the Dragon, a very successful game series that helped pave the way towards Insomniac's status as one of the most successful game developers for PlayStation game titles.
Ico & Shadow of the Colossus
Game developer Fumito Ueda talks about how his initial love for the Commodore Amiga computer led to him striving to find an art and presentation style that was different from other video games and how this eventually led to the creation of both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, two legendary PlayStation classics!
Driver
Martin Edmondon, Game developer and co-founder of Reflections Interactive goes into detail on how the iconic Driver game from 1999 came to be created, a game that came two years before Grand Theft Auto 3 and allowed the player to drive around a highly realistic 3D City in a game heavily inspired by US cop movies from the 1970's.
Resident Evil 1 - 4
Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya and Jun Takeuchi go in-depth in his 1 hour+ deep dive into the Resident Evil series with a special focus on games 1 - 4 (also known as Biohazard 1 - 4) and how what started out as inspiration from Sony's dinosaur head demo for the PlayStation 1 to create something similar evolved into the survival horror classic franchise we have come to know.
The Evolution of Metal Gear
In this fascinating film video game developer Hideo Kojima talks about his early film and gaming inspirations and his eventual entrance into the games industry and creating Metal Gear for the MSX computers in 1987. However it was his discovery of what may be possible on the upcoming Sony PlayStation that made him realise the projects he had always dreamed of creating were now very possible!
Crash Bandicoot
Naughty Dog co-founder Andy Gavin along with contributions from Mark Cerny (then with Universal Interactive Studios) talk about how Naughty Dog's development of 3DO fighting game Way of the Warrior paved the way for them to meet and work together and along with inspiration from games such as Donkey Kong Country wanted to develop an exciting and new 3D title for the upcoming Sony PlayStation, but Naughty Dog had no experience of making a game in 3D!
Tomb Raider 1-3
Tomb Raider artist Heather Gibson, programmer Gavin Rummery and former Eidos President Sir Ian Livingstone share their thoughts on how the incredible Tomb Raider game franchise got started and how their work on the first three games in the series evolved to make Lara Croft and Tomb Raider one of the biggest video game franchises of all time.
Tekken series 1-3
Katsuhiro Harada discusses how the Tekken series got started initially in the arcades but as Namco were approached by Sony to port some of their arcade games to PlayStation and Tekken was one of those selected despite it not being true 3D. Mr Harada explains how faking the 3D gave them a real visual freedom that rival titles such as the true 3D Virtua Fighter were unable to emulate.
